Storytelling has an impact on the viewer and gives them something to think about, shock just goes away after the film ends. One is substance, the other is flash.

There's a lot of promise on the indie circuit and these new filmmakers are getting noticed. Now if Black audiences would pay attention to them, we'd get a renaissance equal to the one of the late 80's early 1990's.Shawn Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11712216572467743626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5121130217304877410.post-7545083736926162472011-04-02T04:43:06.608-07:002011-04-02T04:43:06.608-07:00Shawn, this is one of your most thoughtful and wel...Shawn, this is one of your most thoughtful and well crafted blogs. Unfortunately, it isn't only Daniels-Perry who have the flaws you delineated, but the movie world itself. It's too bad that right through here, we just don't seem to really value excellence anymore. It's shock and more shock and more dealing in sensation, largely devoid of feeling.

I'd like your blog to be required reading for all film people, but we both know that isn't going to happen. The almighty dollar has spoken loud and clear. There are simply more people who want to be shocked and wrapped in sensation than there are of us who value and want excellence.

The late R.V Cassill of the U. of Iowa writing group always said he felt if an author didn't make you feel better about being human, he or she had failed. Judged by that standard, there's a lot of failure going on out here.

Fortunately times change and just perhaps we'll have new talent like yourself coming up who can make us all feel better about being human.Francine Crafthttp://www.francinecraft.comnoreply@blogger.com
